'A Home of Hope' - The Story Behind The Home of Hope & Dreams
How it all started...
In 2009, Gini Pullen decided to leave her life in the Netherlands behind to follow her dream: creating a safe place for underprivileged children in Uganda.
What started as a small house with a big heart, grew over the past 16 years into The Home of Hope & Dreams – a warm, loving home base. In this house, more than 45 children have been cared for, raised and guided towards a hopeful future.
Gini raised over 35 children as if they were her own. Not only did she give them shelter and food, but above all stability, norms and values, education and the space to dare to dream again.
The Home of Hope & Dreams is not a large-scale organization, but deliberately small-scale and personal. Because that is where the strength lies: sincere involvement, daily care and loving attention.
A future with opportunities
We believe that every child deserves a future. That is why we guide our young people not only in their youth, but also in the steps after that: towards independence, work or further study.
We listen to their dreams and together we look for what suits them.
Parenting with love
For us, raising children is not just about rules, but about relationships. Gini raises children with loving attention and clear values: respect, honesty and responsibility.
Love is in the little things. And it is those that make the difference.
Education & Development
Every child deserves the chance to learn. That is why all our children go to school.
We help them with homework, pay school fees and guide them in making choices for their future.
Our mission
Sometimes children come to us empty-handed — but mostly with a head full of worries. They have experienced too much too soon. With us they get something back that is priceless: trust. Trust in themselves, in others, and in a better future.
We offer them the certainty of daily meals, good education, medical care and a loving place where they can laugh, learn, cry, play — and just be a child. Slowly you see it happening: eyes that shine again, children who dare to dream again.
Because hope is not a luxury. It is a right. And we help children find it again.
Our goals
At The Home of Hope & Dreams we create a safe haven for children, where they receive love, care and opportunities to develop. We build a primary school for both our children and the poorest families in the area, so that they can receive free English education.
We give each child the basic necessities they need, but most importantly the space to grow and discover their talents. With respect for Ugandan culture, we offer them the guidance and standards that help them build a hopeful future.
How do we want to achieve this?
We start by setting up a foundation and building a children's home for up to 50 children. In addition, we are realizing a primary school to give both our children and the local community access to good education.
We work closely with local authorities such as the police and child protection to ensure a safe environment. Furthermore, we treat our employees like family, as we believe this care will translate into the way they care for the children.
